Ibiza, Spain
L’OMBRA explores what happens when architecture creates shelter without separating us from the landscape.
Set within the rugged Mediterranean landscape of Ibiza, the house is conceived as a series of monolithic mineral volumes embedded within the terrain. Inside, architecture is precise and highly considered; beyond its walls, that control deliberately gives way. Native vegetation, rock and earth are allowed to approach the house almost untouched, reaching terraces, windows and thresholds rather than being held at a carefully landscaped distance.
Shadow becomes an architectural material in its own right. Deep recesses and generous overhangs temper the intensity of the Mediterranean sun, while light enters selectively — filtered through linen, glass blocks and vegetation, or reflected across stone and textured plaster. The result is a gradual transition between exposure and protection, openness and enclosure.
Inside, pale limestone and mineral plaster are grounded by dark timber, aged bronze, terracotta and natural linen. Raw and refined surfaces coexist with sculptural furniture, art and lighting, bringing warmth, character and a quiet sense of sophistication to the monolithic architecture.
Beyond the house, the experience becomes more elemental. The pool and a minimal shaded pavilion sit directly within the terrain, connected by little more than paths through native vegetation. Moving between house, water and shelter means repeatedly stepping back into the landscape, making nature part of the experience rather than simply something to be observed from within.
L’OMBRA proposes a quieter idea of luxury: not distance from nature, but the freedom to inhabit it without giving up refinement, comfort or cultural depth. Architecture provides the shelter; the landscape is allowed to remain itself.
