Suō is an interior design studio based in Mallorca, rooted in timeless aesthetics, emotional depth, and a multisensory design philosophy.

Blending Mediterranean warmth with Nordic clarity and the quiet elegance of Japanese minimalism, Suō creates spaces that feel as good as they look — harmonious, grounded, and deeply human.

Each project is a layered composition of natural materials, thoughtful contrasts, and meaningful details — shaped in close collaboration with artisans and a network of independent designers, architects, and makers. Suō doesn’t simply decorate interiors; it curates holistic atmospheres that transcend trends, support daily rituals, and evolve gracefully over time.

Whether crafting a private home, a commercial concept, or a hospitality space, Suō adapts to the scale, scope, and rhythm of each commission: shaping new spaces from the ground up, transforming those in need of renewal, or bringing fresh soul to what already exists.

At its heart, Suō is a creative collective — a fluid and collaborative model where knowledge, craft, and intuition converge. For each project, the studio assembles the right collaborators, guiding the process with artistic direction and emotional coherence — from concept to completion or in harmony with existing teams.

The Soul of Suō

Suō (蘇芳) is the Japanese word for a deep, earthy red once derived from the sappanwood tree — a color that evokes warmth, subtle elegance, and quiet depth. Its tones echo the natural pigments of Mediterranean landscapes: terracotta, clay, and stone.

Phonetically, “Suō” also recalls 巣を — the Japanese word for “nest,” reflecting the studio’s vision to create spaces that are both refined and nurturing. In Mandarin, Suō (所) is associated with places and dwellings — a quiet echo of the fascination with the spaces we inhabit and call home.

The name reflects a belief in design that connects with both the senses and the soul — timeless, grounded, and deeply human.

Crafting Mediterranean Feel-Good Spaces

Rooted in a contemporary Mediterranean spirit, Suō blends Nordic clarity and eclectic touches with the warmth of Japanese-inspired minimalism. The result is a refined yet welcoming aesthetic — minimal but never cold, current yet timeless.

Natural materials in earthy tones form the foundation: wood, stone, linen, paper, ceramics. Raw textures and imperfections are celebrated and occasionally contrasted with concrete, metal, or select vintage pieces. Light is treated as atmosphere — embraced naturally, softened thoughtfully. Every space is curated with intention, combining materials and design periods to create layered, meaningful compositions.

Local and regional craftsmanship is prioritized, enriched by select pieces from beyond — always guided by authenticity and soul.

Interior Design in All Senses

Texture, light, form, scent, sound, and rhythm come together to shape atmospheres that feel both grounding and inspiring — spaces where beauty is not only seen, but felt.

Balance emerges through proportion, materiality, and flow, while character often lives in the irregular: a patina, a playful silhouette, or a single object chosen for its story. Functionality and openness are key: layouts are fluid, light is welcomed, and every element supports daily rituals.

Deeply connected to the Mediterranean way of life and nature, Suō values presence, simplicity, and an intuitive rhythm. Because the spaces we inhabit shape not just our routines, but our emotions, our memories — our lives.

Mindful. Meaningful. Made to Last

Suō embraces sustainability as a layered responsibility — ecological, cultural, and emotional. The studio favors local and regional resources, working with nearby artisans and selecting materials for their durability, origin, and timeless beauty.

The 70/30 principle guides many decisions: 70% of elements are local; 30% allow room for contrast, innovation, and individuality — always with integrity. Restoration and reuse are prioritized over replacement. Beyond responsibility, the aim is beauty that lasts — in meaning, function, and quiet elegance.

Alex von Rolbiezki

Interior Art Director & Founder

I’m Alex, the creative mind behind Suō. I shape the soul of each project — from the first spark of inspiration to the final emotional atmosphere.

As an Interior Art Director, I define the artistic vision and guide its translation into reality, collaborating with architects, artisans, and skilled specialists to ensure each detail — from layout and materiality to mood and narrative — forms a harmonious whole. Like a conductor, I bring together intuition, aesthetics, and a deep understanding of people and place, aligning each element to create spaces that resonate on both a visual and emotional level.

I was born in Munich and now live in Mallorca. Having spent half my life in Northern Europe and the other half in Spain, I carry a duality that brings both clarity and warmth to my creative approach. Deeply rooted in the local culture and fluent in German, Spanish, and English (currently learning French), I naturally navigate across cultures and contexts.

With a background in various creative disciplines and a lifelong passion for architecture and interior design, I believe design is not about decoration — it’s about creating harmony, telling stories, and evoking emotion. A space shouldn’t just look beautiful — it should resonate.
